Start Creating →RapidDirect machined a non-magnetic mount for the M-73 prismatic compass in aluminum and stainless steel, holding ISO 2768-M tolerances and shipping the full set in two weeks.
Lin, an independent scientific officer, documented the M-73 prismatic compass and needed a stable mount for testing, alignment and surveying. Any ferrous alloy would disturb the compass needle, so the mount had to be machined from non-magnetic stock on a hobby project budget.
Aluminum and stainless steel were the only practical options, which rules out the cheaper mild steels most shops quote by default.
The mount had to clamp hardware that was never designed for it while keeping alignment steady outdoors.
The project needed a fast first article without prototype-shop pricing.
Our engineering team reviewed the design for manufacturability, proposed small geometry changes and machined the parts to ISO 2768-M with black matte anodizing and a brushed finish.

The drawing was checked before quoting, with adjustment suggestions that protected the alignment accuracy.

The mount body and brackets were machined with threaded features held inside the general tolerance band.

Aluminum parts took a black matte anodized finish and the stainless brackets were brushed before the set shipped with inspection reports.
Lin received the finished parts in two weeks and moved straight into validation and field testing.
The finished mount held the compass stable in outdoor testing and the non-magnetic build kept the needle unaffected, which gave the project a repeatable setup on a hobby budget.
RapidDirect was the only supplier able to deliver what I needed on time and within budget.
